What are Mark's Qualifications?

Mark has over 20 years guitar tuition in both electric and acoustic guitar. Mark is an experienced music professional with a doctorate in Music and Culture and a masters degree in Popular Music. Mark teaches in many schools in the Midlands and we are extremely happy to have Mark teaching at East Midlands Drum Tuition.

How long are lessons?

Lessons are normally an hour or 30 minutes and can be weekly or fortnightly as both provide good musical development.
However, some students have a lesson a month and this is fine. It is about what is right for you! Some students have group lessons to help with the cost of learning an instrument. Mark believes in a student first approach and as such has many resources suited to all learners. These cover:
  • Basic guitar technique, posture and warm ups
  • The fundamentals of guitar playing, hand position, chord shapes and melody
  • Chord progressions and how to solo
  • Learning song structure and the basic of chord shapes and chord development
  • Learning songs that connect with you as a guitar player

Free Trial Lesson

Every student who is interested in learning the guitar can book in for a free trial lesson. This is a great opportunity to meet your tutor and have a go at a lesson and to see if you like it.

When and how do I pay?

Lessons are billed through an invoice system using Quickbooks. BACS and cash payments are also accepted.

What ages do you teach?

In general 5 and upwards works well, but there are no rules. Each student is treated individually and Mark is happy to take trial lessons with younger students to see if they are ready.

What do I need to take lessons? Do I need a guitar?

Everything you need at the lesson will be provided. It is recommended that you purchase a guitar to practice on between lessons but this is not essential to start with.

Will you travel to teach a lesson?
If you have your own Guitar Mark is more than happy to travel to you for a lesson.
Do you teach online lessons?
The studio is fully set up to deliver high quality online learning. This is achieved through multiple web cameras and using Zoom to share and annotate lesson plans and material.

Do you teach adults and children?

Both adults and children have lessons. You are never too old to learn an instrument!

Will I have fun?

Whether you are learning for fun, wanting to complete grades or an experienced guitar player wanting to develop your skills. It’s important that you have fun and enjoy your lessons. Mark will offer a fun an engaging environment to develop your guitar skills.
